Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)

What is a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)?

An HTMA is a non-invasive test that measures levels of minerals, heavy metals, and specific mineral ratios. Minerals are an important micronutrient that is foundational for our health. Minerals work synergistically and can affect two other minerals if there's an imbalance. The mineral relationship is all connected and affects other minerals directly or indirectly. The hair is composed of dead cells, and cells are the primary site of metabolic activity in the body, analyzing the hair provides us with a unique window into the cells that we would not be able to see otherwise.

How does HTMA work?

The test kit requires a clipping of the first inch and one-half of growth closest to the scalp at the nape of the neck sent to the lab to interpret. The test results will provide a comprehensive evaluation of significant mineral levels, ratios, and toxic metals as tested in the hair.

Why the hair? While the hair is growing, the hair is exposed to the internal environment and once it reaches the surface of the skin, the hair follicle hardens and locks in metabolic products accumulated during the growth phase. This provides a record of mineral status and nutritional metabolic activity.

Note: The portion of hair to be collected should be untreated, i.e. not permed, dyed, or bleached. If all of the hair has been chemically treated, wait until sufficient new virgin growth has emerged to allow collection. The hair should also be free of all gels, oils, and hair creams prior to sample collection.

What will you discover?

You will be provided a report that shows your nutritional mineral elements, toxic elements exposure, mineral ratios between synergistic mineral elements, and toxic mineral ratios and their antagonistic relationship on various essential minerals.

    Who benefits from HTMA?

An HTMA test is beneficial for both men and women. This test is a good tool to use to assess mineral status in the body. As this is a good indicator of the metabolic processes occurring within the cells (intracellular). Accumulation of heavy metal exposure can be a root cause issue, as they are stored in the brain, kidney, liver, bones, and adipose tissue. Mineral imbalances have an important interconnected relationship with organ systems such as the endocrine system. Even vitamins are closely associated with the metabolic functions of minerals. Minerals are a foundational component to our health and play numerous roles in the body.
